Aquaman is the next installment in the DC Extended Universe.
December 21st, 2018 - Aquaman is released and has since drowned the competition in box office numbers, hitting 100 million on Christmas Day.
During this holiday season, Warner Bros. and DC Comics have once again made another splash in the winter movie roundup with their brand-new film, Aquaman. After the character’s on-screen debut in 2017’s Justice League, Aquaman has managed to attract a lot of hype after the character’s interesting and fun role in his last appearance. The film follows Arthur Curry, played by Jason Momoa (Game of Thrones, Conan the Barbarian), whom is the son of a queen and a lighthouse keeper. His mother, Atlanta, is a direct descendant of the first king of Atlantis but she was banned from her realm, so she eventually is forced to move to the surface world. She then meets Tom Curry, a lighthouse keeper residing in Maine, and they quickly fall in love and have a boy, Arthur. Atlanta is then forced back under the deep waters, thus leaving her child with his father. This event causes major confusion with Arthur, as he possess a wide variety of unique abilities as a child, but does not know how to use them or where they actually came from. However, a Atlantian teacher, Vulkro, is then sent by his mother to teach Arthur the ways of how to be an Atlantian and later fulfill his destiny as Aquaman.

Throughout the film, we follow Arthur's quest to reclaim his birthright as the true King of Atlantis. He must fight to regain the Trident of Atlan which has been lost for centuries and will truly win over the people of the sea. However, with the help of his love interest in the female Atlantian, Mera, Arthur travels all around the world, from the depths of the Sahara Desert to the beauty of the island paradise of Sicily. In the process, Curry and Mera overcome several major threats and foes, such as the fearful and dangerous, Black Manta, and King Orm, also known as Oceanmaster. However, Orm, who turns out to be Arthur's half brother, will do anything to secure the throne. Full of twists and turns at every corner, with plenty of action and adventure along the way, the journey of Arthur Curry is certainly to be a treat for all ages.

A serious film with lighthearted jokes and good action scenes, Aquaman is a good wrap up to 2018 for Warner Bros. and DC Comics. With many swings and misses in their past movie franchises, such as Batman vs. Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, DC is starting to turn around their luck, beginning with 2017’s Wonder Woman and continuing with this film. However, how will this film play in to the vast range of characters in the DC universe? We’ll just have to wait and see what tricks Warner Bros. and DC have up their sleeve for the future of the DCEU. As for Aquaman, the film is a must-watch for all DC lovers and all superhero fanatics and it ought to be a delight for young kids all around.
