Fun and Fancy Free
By: Peyton Schultze
As 2019 has begun, the Disneyland Resort will start to experience some major changes throughout the majority of the resort. Including a resort-wide celebration of everyone’s favorite mouse and the exciting reveal of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland Park, the resort should offer intriguing new options for all parkgoers as the new year enters. However, old favorites and new twists on classics in recent years have propelled the resort to where it is right now and delighted guests day in and day out. With that being said, here’s our complete ranking of all attractions found at the Disneyland Resort, from worst to best.
58. Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition
One of the oldest and at this point, most outdated, attractions at Disneyland Park, the Frontierland Shootin’ Exposition finds itself at the bottom of our list. After inserting a few quarters, guests grab one of eighteen rifles on a counter and point their fake weapons at select targets, which then move around and have effects on the scenery around them. Although it still has a place at Disneyland with its roots to the past, the shooting arcade is not a must for travelers and will likely pass the gallery without even noticing.
57. Golden Zephyr
Located in Paradise Gardens Park, Golden Zephyr is by far the most boring ride located at the Disneyland Resort. Essentially by just entering a ride vehicle and going in circles just several feet about the launch pad, this ride is not ideal for guests looking for a ride with thrills. In addition, the ride is also often closed and is not always open to park guests during downtime seasons. With that being said, Golden Zephyr is a disappointment when it comes to Disney Parks’ own ride standards and ought to be ignored on any guest’s next visit.
56. Casey Jr. Circus Train
Located in Fantasyland, the Casey Jr. Circus Train attraction is certainly one of the more boring rides on property. However, for toddlers or families with young children, this ride may not be as low due to its little-kid vibe. Yet, for most kids above 5 and adults, the ride is not ideal for visits and is hard to even find with its location hidden in the back of Fantasyland. While the ride gets credit for surviving since 1955, this train is not quite on the right track compared to other Disneyland attractions.
55. Tarzan’s Treehouse
Up in the trees of Adventureland, Tarzan’s Treehouse sits peacefully in the sky. While this walkthrough attraction may be interesting to see for the first time, the steep walk up stairs is certainly not worth spending your time on for returning park guests. Add in the fact that paint of certain figures from the film are starting to chip away and that few kids in today’s era even know about Tarzan, this attraction is somewhat of a snooze fest that could easily be skipped on any given trip.
54. Sleeping Beauty Castle Walkthrough
In this indoor walkthrough attraction, guests simply look at displays from the animated cartoon, 1959’s Sleeping Beauty. While it is perfect for a quick walkthrough on a warm summer day to cool off indoors, the attraction can be somewhat meaningless during winter and during the offseason of crowds. However, for first time guests, this is an attraction that is rarely crowded and somewhat cool to see if guests are curious to travel through the infamous Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland.
53. Gadget’s Go Coaster
Many people would be surprised to see an attraction of this magnitude so low. However, with wait times that are exponentially higher than they should be and a ride that is basically less than 30 seconds, the attraction is rarely worth the wait and can be a struggle for parents waiting in line with their children. The ride quality is not the best for Disney “coasters” and is not worth a ton of time during a one-day visit if the lines are long and the weather is warm.
52. Jumpin’ Jellyfish
As a ride that simply just goes up and slowly down within a matter of a few minutes, Jumpin’ Jellyfish is not an ideal ride for older kids or adults. However, for little kids around 3-years old, this ride could be considered ideal with its mild thrill. The waits are usually short, which is a positive, but the ride remains something that is just not very exciting and in an area of the park that is visited less than almost any other part of Disney’s California Adventure. Not the worst, but certainly not near the best.
51. Storybook Land Canal Boats
To this attraction’s credit, the scenery on the outside can be spectacular with its topiaries spelling out the name of the ride. Add in the whale from Pinocchio and the ride seems to be one that could be worth riding. However, the ride is essentially just full of miniature models of lands from select Disney films, such as Frozen and Aladdin. The concept of the ride is not bad by any means, but can be one of Disneyland’s worst rides at times due to its unreasonably long wait times, especially during summer. There is also little to zero shade on the ride, which can cause guests to be hot and no even enjoy their time on the ride. Storybook is not terrible by any stretch, which speaks to the volume of how great Disney rides really can be with a ranking this low for this ride.
50. Star Wars Launch Bay
Star Wars Launch Bay is only this low in our rankings because of how much of a tease it is towards the future of Star Wars in Disney Parks. The props and models from the films are an absolute treat for any Star Wars fan and are sure to be a must-stop for any movie lover. In addition, meeting characters such as Darth Vader and Chewbacca are awesome and usually only a wait time of about 15 minutes. This attraction makes us want Galaxy’s Edge even more and is not bad by any means.
49. Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island
Traveling out towards Tom Sawyer Island is a trek, but can be worth it for a family with a young fan of pirates. Although the attraction is becoming outdated with the Pirates franchise starting to fade out, it can still be fun to explore the island with friends and family with all of its hidden features. Pirate’s Lair is a pretty cool experience for young children and although it is rather low on the list, it can still be worthwhile if looking for some fun.
48. Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes
The canoes are often closed, which plummets the attraction’s ranking in this. However, while it can certainly be a tough workout that will build a sweat on a warm day, Davy Crockett’s Explorer Canoes are rather fun when doing it all with the family. While it is more of an experience than a ride and can get you wet, the experience of being on a “canoe” can be pretty cool. Guests should try to go on them at least once when on a multiple day trip, as they will enjoy the uniqueness of the attraction on the Rivers of America.
47. Mark Twain Riverboat
A classic attraction located at Disneyland Park, the Mark Twain Riverboat is still a treat for first time visitors and pass holders alike. Especially with recent renovations towards the back of the river with outstanding scenery for guests to get a look at the peaks of Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, the Riverboat provides some views that make it worth it. Although it can get extremely hot during summers and become boring for children midway through the ride, the Mark Twain Riverboat is still an interesting part of Disneyland lore.
46. Pixie Hollow
An absolute treat for little kids, Pixie Hollow is a thrill for kids to be able to meet their favorite pixies, such as Tinker Bell. Wait times can be long during peak days, but are often worth it for families with young kids. Add in the scenery around the attraction, such as a glowing fountain and sparkling lights and Pixie Hollow is a solid meet and greet for children.
45. Disneyland Monorail
Due to its rich history and favorite among Disneyland fans, the Monorail is still an awesome attraction for park-goers. Although it is nothing more than a two-way trip to Downtown Disney and back, the Monorail experience -the first in North America-is still great and provides several picturesque views of Disneyland, Disney’s California Adventure, and Downtown Disney.
44. Luigi’s Rollickin Roadsters
Replacing the former ride known as Luigi’s Flying Tires, Luigi’s Rollickin Roadsters is a delight for little kids who enjoy the Cars film franchise. Although it is a slow moving ride, the soundtrack and quick car movements are fun for families and make it worth the experience. Wait times can drag and the attraction is often almost always closed on rainy days, but Luigi’s is still solid fun for the whole family.
43. Pixar Pal-A-Round
One of the new Pixar attractions now at Pixar Pier, the infamous Mickey Fun Wheel is now known as Pixar Pal-A-Round. Featuring infamous Pixar characters on each individual cart, such as Woody, Nemo and Miguel, carts rise up in the air on a gigantic Ferris Wheel on swinging or non-swinging carts. While the experience provides breathtaking views of the resort and can be intense in the swinging carts, Pixar Pal-A-Round is rather quick and eventually wears out over time. However, the ride gives off some of the best views in the resort and is truly a spectacle in Pixar Pier, especially when it starts to get dark with its glowing lights in the night sky.
42. Redwood Creek Challenge Trail
An underrated attraction experience in Disney’s California Adventure, Redwood Creek Challenge Trail can be very fun for kids and a relaxing experience for adults. While kids play with the various obstacle courses or on the unique slides, parents can relax in the shade of the area’s tall trees with very little noise. Throw in extra bonus points for the area when decked out for the holiday season, but this attraction certainly remains enchanting in a very peaceful area of the park.
41. Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree
The second Cars Land attraction mentioned thus far, Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree is an awesome ride for fans of the old pickup truck from the popular film franchise. And the ride is no slouch. While it is not a thrill ride by any means, the attraction swings riders around rapidly and had a fun and upbeat soundtrack to ride along to. Intended as a ride for smaller children, Mater’s is an outstanding ride for smaller kids but not great enough to rise higher in our rankings.
40. Fantasy Faire
A newer area of Disneyland Park, the Princess Fantasy Faire is an awesome addition with families with little kids waiting to meet their favorite princesses. With a theater stage retelling tales as old as time and a meet-and-greet area to see Ariel, Belle, and others, the Princess Fantasy Faire has been a major addition for families looking for a place to meet some of their favorite characters all at once. One last thing: the area is often empty towards the night time and instantly becomes one of the more peaceful areas on property once the lights turn on.
39. Mickey’s House
Although basic and simply just a quick walkthrough, Mickey’s House is still a must-do for all first-time guests of the resort. Straight out of an animated short, Mickey’s House looks exactly what you would picture it to look like: cartoonish, whimsical, and perfectly suitable for everyone’s favorite mouse. You do not have to stand in line to meet Mickey, but can be worth it if it is a guest’s first visit to score a picture opportunity with the mouse who started it all.
38. Disneyland Railroad
As one of Disneyland’s most historic attractions, the Disneyland Railroad is certainly still a great attraction. While it can be boring at times for children, adults can enjoy the beautiful scenery along the circle tour of Disneyland Park involving a trip back to the age of the dinosaurs and a view of the Grand Canyon. The railroad is also a great way to get off of your feet after a long day of walking around the park and can get you from Point A to Point B in no time at all. Another note for visitors: try to book a free trip early in the morning in the Lily Belle caboose car to experience a true piece of Disney history.
37. Silly Symphony Swings
At Disney’s California Adventure, Silly Symphony Swings can be a fun attraction for families and kids alike. As a simple concept ride that vaults riders into the sky on swings based on the Silly Symphony Mickey Mouse cartoon, riders can get views from all around the park including Pixar Pier and Cars Land. Going on this ride on a warm California day with a breeze can be a pure delight for riders and is worth the wait if it is under 15 minutes. An underrated and rarely-crowded ride for sure, Silly Symphony Swings is a lot of fun for riders of all ages.
36. The Disney Animation Building
Step inside the Disney Animation Building for a relaxing time with some unique things to do. For one, guests can draw one of their favorite Disney characters at Animation Academy. Or they can talk with Crush, the turtle from Finding Nemo, at Turtle Talk with Crush. They can even journey to the Sorcerer’s Workshop where they can see which Disney character they are most like or learn simplistic animation concepts from famous Disney movies. The fun and relaxing time inside the building is great for guests and an ideal spot for a mid-day rest in the park.
35. Pinocchio’s Daring Journey
One of Fantasyland’s iconic dark rides, Pinocchio’s Daring Journey is practically a journey through the iconic Disney film from 1940. While guests have interactions with the frenzies of Pleasure Island or encounter the massive whale, twists and turns lie at every corner. Although the younger guests may be frightened at some points, the ride ultimately comes to a happy ending with the finale involving the magic of the iconic Blue Fairy. Pinocchio is an iconic Disneyland ride in Fantasyland that will surely entertain guests even more for years to come.
34. The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
Back in the corner of Disneyland Park, the friendly critters and residents of the Hundred Acre Wood reside and welcome guests to visit them. Winnie the Pooh, along with his friends such as Eeyore and Piglet, travel through some of Pooh’s most fun adventures. Including a wacky scene with Heffalumps and Woozles that are sure to bend the mind, guests find their way through attraction in a delightful and rarely-crowded manner. This attraction is fun and a must for families whose kids love characters such as Pooh and Tigger and worth visiting while stopping by Critter Country.
33. Mad Tea Party
As the ideal picture opportunity throughout the resort, maybe Mad Tea Party deserves to be higher on the list. But while the attraction is a great snapshot, it is not a whole lot more than a simplistic ride that can cause headaches for people with types of motion sickness. However, this ride is iconic among Disney lovers and is beloved by many who venture its way. If one decided to go, make sure to go on at night under the lights for a truly beautiful spectacle with the stunning colors of Fantasyland.
32. Astro Orbiter
Although this attraction can have frustrating lines on a crowded day and is rather short, Astro Orbiter can still be awesome for young kids. Bringing riders high into the Disneyland sky aboard miniature rocket ships, the attraction takes riders in circles to give an ideal view of the park. The attraction is certainly skippable on a packed day, but is fun for first-time visitors and young kids. Similar to Mad Tea party, try to get on at night to witness the outstanding colors of Tomorrowland with its unique combination of blue, red, and orange.
31. Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage
Travel with Nemo and friends under the sea in a submarine for an experience unlike many others. The submarine attraction area, a Disneyland staple for decades, is crystal blue and now hosts Nemo, Dory, Marlin and their undersea friends on a splashing adventure through the use of practical effects and screens to display the characters. However, this ride can be very tight for some riders and cause some to feel very claustrophobic at times. Yet, while the ride has long lines at times and certainly is not at the top of the list, the submarine voyage is still a unique experience worth trying out at some point in one’s trip to the resort.
30. Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue!
One of California Adventure’s dark rides, Monsters, Inc. Mike and Sulley to the Rescue! is a fun attraction for fans of the respective film. While the ride is located in one of the quieter areas of the resort, the attraction is still a fun use of your time especially with young ones. Traveling through Monstropolis to hide Boo and avoid the villain, Randall, at all coasts, guests find their way the city along with Mike and Sulley. The ride has an awesome climax with its combination of doors from the film on the Scare Floor and is certainly one of the better dark rides on property. As long as the line are not long, make sure to travel towards Hollywood Land and check out this attraction.
29. Snow White’s Scary Adventures
One of Disney’s classic, yet frightening, attractions, Snow White’s Scary Adventures is a journey through the iconic Disney film. With twists and turns and some genuinely spooky scenes involving the Evil Queen, the ride can be too much for some younger guests but is still enjoyable due to the legacy of the film from 1937. Located right after passing through Sleeping Beauty Castle, the Fantasyland dark ride is fun for all and usually does not have long lines to go along with it.
28. Goofy’s Sky School
Formerly known as Mulholland Madness, Goofy’s Sky School is the first coaster to appear on the rankings. Although the ride is certainly more intended to be a young kid’s first roller coaster. Goofy’s still can be a lot of fun. With its purely exhilarating twists at the very top of the ride and quick drops that are guaranteed to cause an empty feeling in your stomach, Goofy’s Sky School is not only fun for kids, but all ages as well. The ride can be crowded sometimes, but is also FastPass eligible in the event of wanting to ride. This is definitely not Disney’s best roller coaster, but a fun attraction nevertheless.
27. Alice in Wonderland
Alice’s trip through Wonderland is a magical experience that only Disney could recreate in attraction form. Guests travel through iconic and awesome scenes from the animated film, such as the Mad Hatter’s tea party and the Queen of Hearts’ croquet match, aboard a caterpillar and find themselves in many peculiar situations. Alice in Wonderland is a great dark ride attraction in Fantasyland and one of Fantasyland’s best all-around rides.
26. King Arthur’s Carrousel
A Disneyland original since 1955, King Arthur’s Carrousel is one of the park’s iconic attractions. Although the attraction is nothing more than a simple carousel ride to the music of Sleeping Beauty, the thought of riding the attraction in the central hub of Fantasyland brings in riders each and every day. As another one of Disney’s most picture-worthy sports, King Arthur’s Carrousel is a daily treat for guests looking to ride one of the original attractions from the park’s opening in 1955.
25. Ariel’s Undersea Adventure
One of the resort’s newer attractions since California Adventure’s park-wide remodeling, Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is a great dark ride based off the events from 1989’s The Little Mermaid. Traveling under the sea in a seashell cart, guests are able to see Ariel and her undersea friends in their own environment. Combining the best Audio-Animatronic figures for any Disney dark ride in the resort with the great theming on the attraction (not to mention the great AC throughout the building), Ariel’s Undersea Adventure is truly a great ride for all ages and one of the premier and rarely-crowded rides at Disney’s California Adventure.
24. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln
Although somewhat boring and certainly not Disney’s most exciting attraction, Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is just another example of Disney magic. With an Audio-Animatronic Abraham Lincoln reciting the infamous Gettysburg Address inside the Main Street Opera House, the attraction reminds fellow Americans and visitors all around the world not only about the beauty of America and dedication that it takes to keep it preserved and safe, but the sacrifice that all people must make to stand up for what they love. Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is a revolutionary attraction that made its debut at the 1964 New York World’s Fair that still finds a way to stand strong and teach all park guests crucial lessons based off Lincoln’s words dating back to November 19th of 1863.
23. Autopia
Although slightly outdated and sometimes crowded, Autopia remains another classic Disneyland ride that has enjoyed thousands for decades. By allowing kids of all ages to drive their own car through streets and terrains, Autopia’s combination of new cars designed and sponsored by Honda mixed with the old-school vibes around the Tomorrowland area have allowed guests to enjoy this attraction over the years. Over the course of a multiple day trip, Autopia is a must for all families.
22. Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room
While Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room is not an adventurous ride, it is a unique show featuring pure Disney magic. With a mix of singing, Animatronic birds with exotic plants and tikis, the Enchanted Tiki Room show is truly a spectacle that has entertained guests at the entrance to Adventureland since 1963. As one of Walt’s last supervised attractions, the Enchanted Tiki Room is an awesome mid-day stop for all ages to cool off and a must on any trip to the Disneyland Resort.
21. Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin
Based off the 1988 Robert Zemeckis film, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Roger Rabbit’s Car Toon Spin is an awesome Disneyland dark ride. Combining aspects of Mad Tea Party with one of the Fantasyland’s dark rides, Roger Rabbit and friends try to escape the clutches of the evil weasels who possess the horrible Dip, a liquid that hurts and kills toons. As the cart spins throughout, guests pass through several highly decorated scenes that are filled with many effects and surprises at every corner. The ride can sometimes be long with aggravating and slow-moving lines, but the Toontown dark ride is one of Disneyland’s best that is guaranteed to make any toon smile.
20. Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride
Originally opening on the first day of Disneyland’s operational hours, Mr. Toad’s wild ride is a phenomenal journey that allows guests to board a motor car and travel absolutely nowhere in particular. Ranging from the famed Toad Hall to parts of the British countryside and even parts of hell, guests travel on their vehicle to through many random scenes aboard the wild car. While Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride is not a high-speed ride, it is certainly still a fun and thrilling dark ride that is sure to delight guests with its epic twists and interesting use of practical effects. As a pure Disneyland classic, Mr. Toad will continue to please visitors for years to come and is a must-stop on any trip to the Disneyland Resort.
19. Star Tours - The Adventures Continue
Who knew that traveling to a galaxy far, far away could be so epic? Although Star Wars is about to have an even larger presence soon at Disneyland, Star Tours is still an awesome intergalactic adventure aboard a Starspeeder 1000. With an seemingly endless combination of planets to visit on any trip, such as Crait, Jaaku, or even Hoth, Star Tours provides a unique and fun experience almost every time a guest rides. Although the ride can sometimes cause heavy motion sickness due to its simulator, Star Tours is a must for any hardcore Star Wars fan traveling to the resort.
18. “it’s a small world”
Originally debuting at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, “it’s a small world” is a beautiful ride that takes riders on a cruise around the world. In viewing a ton of different cultures from around the globe with a happy mixture of song and rhythm from the Animatronic dolls displayed, the ride is sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face. Throw in extra points for the ride’s stunning holiday display with vivid lights and wonderful scenery and “it’s a small world” is a can’t-miss attraction at Disneyland Park.
17. Jungle Cruise
A ride synonymous with Disneyland itself, Jungle Cruise is a simple boat trip through the jungle within Adventureland. Guests travel aboard select boats with an assigned tour guide, venturing through all parts of the wilderness on their way to seeing a large mix of Animatronic animals. Yet the animals and effects do not make the ride what it is. No, the simple puns and ridiculousness of the tour guides on each individual boat make the Jungle Cruise a truly special ride that is hard to replicate. Next time at the resort, make sure to travel aboard the world-famous Jungle Cruise and travel to places such as the Nile, or else, well, you’re in denial.
16. Grizzly River Rapids
Looking to get absolutely drenched on a warm, California day? Look no further than Grizzly River Rapids, one of Disney’s premier water rides that is sure to leave you soaked for hours to come. The ride is rather shallow on things such as theming, but has all sorts of twists, turns, and drops for the guests inside your boat to have loads of fun with. While the stunning architecture of the Grizzly Mountain is a true sight to behold in itself, the epic thrills of the awesome rapid ride make this attraction a ride worthy of being ridden anytime while visiting Disney’s California Adventure.
15. Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters
Loosely based upon the events of Pixar’s Toy Story 2, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters recruits fellow Space Rangers to help Buzz go to battle again the Evil Emperor Zurg. Upon entering a XP-40 Star Cruiser, guests are given a blaster to shoot at select targets displayed throughout for a chance at a score to compare against friends and family. Combining the fact that the attraction is certainly one of Disneyland’s fastest moving lines and the competitive game aspect within the attraction, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters is a great ride for friends and families to let their competitive juices flow and compare high scores on any given trip to the Disneyland Resort.
14. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad
As Frontierland’s marquee attraction, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad takes guests aboard a runaway train on the wildest ride in the wilderness. After a massive renovation in the past several years that added ride effects and a smoother track layout, the ride has never been in better shape and is a great coaster for young and old alike to enjoy and have a great time. Big Thunder may not be quite the thrill that rides such as Space Mountain and Matterhorn Bobsleds are, but the attraction certainly holds its own as a classic Disneyland coaster that can not be missed.
13. Dumbo the Flying Elephant
But isn’t it just a Dumbo-version of Astro Orbiter? Maybe, but there’s just something so perfect and magical about the simplistic Flying Elephant in Fantasyland that perfectly fits the overall vibe of the Disneyland Resort. Could it be that guests actually ride inside a flying elephant of all things? Or it is the nostalgic roots dating back to the early days of Disneyland that still make this classic attraction intriguing and still worthy of riding? Everyone has their own opinions, but it is certainly hard to debate that this ride is one of Disneyland’s shining star attractions that soars above many of the rest.
12. Matterhorn Bobsleds
A snowy mountain sitting in the middle of a beautiful and sunny California amusement park? Just another bizarre, yet stunning display of pure Disney magic. Ever since opening way back in 1959, Matterhorn Bobsleds has thrilled guests sliding down and about throughout the iconic Disneyland mountain, all while avoiding the clutches of the famed Abominable Snowman waiting inside. Although the ride is now very jerky and somewhat intense compared to other thrill rides that Disneyland has to offer, Matterhorn is still a one-of-a-kind attraction that is surely among Disney’s best.
11. Peter Pan’s Flight
As Disneyland’s top pure dark ride, Peter Pan’s Flight is surely a true sight to behold. While there are often excruciating lines for the famed attraction, the attraction is still one of Disney’s best that is a great spectacle for all to witness. Throughout the ride, guests are suspended aboard a flying pirate ship that takes them through some magical scenes, ranging from the Darling’s nursery where they meet Peter Pan all the way to the adventures aboard the Jolly Roger in the battle against Captain Hook. Yet few rides are able to capture the true spirit of Disney magic such as this. Sailing over the beautiful London sky is one of the best moments in any Disney attraction and makes Peter Pan’s Flight a magnificent ride worth going on any time guests travel to the resort.
10. Soarin’ Around the World
Taking flight way above the ground and traveling the world. What could possibly be better? Soarin’ Around the World now takes guests all around the world to all sorts of famous monuments and destinations that some people can only dream of seeing once in their lifetime. While many have disagreed with the recent transformation that Soarin’ was involved with (from traveling just in California to all around the globe), the attraction is still great and worth visiting on any trip, especially through use of a FastPass. A final note: the scene where guests travel up towards the top of the Eiffel Tower is one of the top moments of any attraction in all of the resort and is a stunning sight that is sure to take away anyone’s breath.
9. The Haunted Mansion
Considered Disneyland’s most “frightening” attraction, The Haunted Mansion is one of Disney’s most cherished attractions that has entertained guests since 1969. While the ride does give off spooky vibes, the attraction is nothing more than a silly travel through a haunted mansion filled with ghouls, interacting with dead spirits and paranormal activities along the way. The attraction also supports a rabid fan base that has adored the famed mansion for years, celebrating the attraction on certain organized group days by sporting clothing that looks as if it is from the ride. Combining the classic version of the ride with its holiday overlay involving the characters from Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas makes The Haunted Mansion a can’t-miss attraction that is rarely a long wait and a phenomenal all-around ride.
8. Splash Mountain
Another one of Disneyland’s awesome “Mountain” attractions, Splash Mountain is an epic water ride located in the back left corner of Disneyland in Critter Country. With a catchy soundtrack and some epic drops that are sure to get riders drenched, Splash Mountain is a pure joy to ride on every visit to the park. While the ride has some long waits at times, there are few rides that are more perfect to ride on than during a warm, California summer day once aboard the log flume ride. Splash Mountain is a great attraction that has continued to thrill guests since opening in the summer of 1989 and will continue to entertain park goers in the near and distant future.
7. Incredicoaster
Disneyland Resort’s newest attraction, the Incredicoaster is an Incredibles-themed overlay of the previous attraction, California Screamin’. Although the track layout has been virtually unchanged since the ride debuted at the brand-new Pixar Pier, there are several new elements along the course of the ride that make the ride even more thrilling and a blast. The Incredicoaster has been a massive success since opening at Pixar Pier last summer and is certainly one of Disney’s fastest and most enjoyable rides for thrill-seeking kids and adults to enjoy in Disney’s California Adventure.
6. Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout!
As the resort’s first step in the future Marvel presence inside the two California parks, Guardians of the Galaxy - Mission Breakout! is an absolutely thrilling drop ride that is among Disney Parks’ best work. Previously known as The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, the new Guardians of the Galaxy renovation has proven to be a hit among park guests with its awesome theming and great drops that are sure to bring butterflies to anyone’s stomach. With a rocking soundtrack featuring the Jackson 5 and Pat Benatar and some mysterious, hidden Marvel Easter eggs throughout the ride’s queue, Mission Breakout is a phenomenal ride at Disney’s California Adventure that can not be missed on any trip to the resort.
5. Radiator Springs Racers
A truly innovative and exhilarating ride located within Cars Land, Radiator Springs Racers is an awesome thrill ride set near the exterior setting of Ornament Valley in Cars Land. Part dark ride and part coaster, the ride travels throughout the town of Radiator Springs to meet with fellow friends from the Cars franchise such as Mater and Lightning McQueen. Setting up towards the final high-speed race at the end of the ride where riders compete with another car in a pursuit for first place in a big race, Radiator Springs Racers truly is an immersive ride with brand-new technology that competes with some of the best rides in all of the theme park industry. This attraction is a delight for all ages but gets crowded early and often, so be sure to grab a FastPass in the morning and hop on this stunning ride on your next visit to the resort.
4. Space Mountain
Disneyland Park’s most thrilling and fastest ride, Space Mountain vaults riders throughout space to twist and turn throughout the depths of the cosmos. The ride is unlike many with its pure-black interior and accelerating speeds, and has remained a Disneyland favorite since opening in 1977. Although the ride is usually crowded with excited riders, it is usually simple to snag a FastPass at some point throughout the day to avoid long lines and head right on in to board your rocket into space. Space Mountain is as exciting as it gets and is definitely worth going on any time while visiting the Happiest Place on Earth.
3. Indiana Jones Adventure
Perhaps Disneyland’s most well-themed ride to date, Indiana Jones Adventure is a trip through a long-lost temple to discover the treasures hidden inside, as guests hop aboard a jeep transit. With twists and frights at every corner such as snakes, fire, and massive boulders, the trip throughout the bumpy and rugged terrain makes for a exciting attraction that keeps riders at the edge of their seat. And after all, the famed archaeologist is there to help save the day at the end, making this attraction feel as if you were standing side by side with Indy in one of the iconic films. Indiana Jones Adventure is a ride for the ages, and a must-ride for any Disneyland trip.
2. Toy Story Midway Mania!
The top attraction at Disney’s California Adventure, Toy Story Midway Mania! is a true delight for all guests at the Disneyland resort. No matter what age, this attraction is suitable for all and a California Adventure favorite. With games set to the characters from the Toy Story franchise, Midway Mania is truly a pleasure for all who ride as they compete against other friends or family members for a high score. Although the ride does not match up with the thrill aspect of the coasters or theming of the select dark rides, Toy Story Midway Mania! summarizes into one single word: fun. Fun is what the resort has been built upon and few rides demonstrate this more than the splendid Toy Story attraction in Pixar Pier. Ignore the potentially long lines; this ride is one of the best there is.
1.Pirates of the Caribbean
It’s a basic ride. Travel down a waterfall. See the ancient remains of washed away pirates. See the pirates in their glory days and then travel back to the real world. But Pirates of the Caribbean is slightly more than just that. As an attraction that has inspired an entire film franchise and create a fan base filled with millions of people, few rides bring together the traditional spirit of what makes Disneyland so great like Pirates of the Caribbean does. With its awesome effects, sensational soundtrack, great Animatronics, and nostalgic roots back to the early days of the park, Pirates brings together all the best of what makes up a classic Disneyland attraction. Disagree as you will, but Pirates of the Caribbean is the resort’s best attraction that has brought in millions of guests throughout the years and dating back all the way to March of 1967 and will continue to delight even more for decades to come.
